TAKING CARE OF SENIORS : THE SWEDISH EXPERIENCE
The Swedish system of care for older people is recognized throughout the world for its efficiency, its avant-garde and quality of care.
During their participation in the study trip that took place in Stockholm from March 8th to 11th, twenty presidents and directors from French entities, having in common their professional involvement in the senior care or service fields, have discovered and learned about the specifics of the Swedish operations and thus, have absorbed better practices.
Following a presentation about the functioning of the healthcare system by the Director of the representative Swedish Association of Local and Regional Authorities, the delegates were guided through the heart of exemplary care facilities, both in the private and public sectors. These visits have highlighted the variety of offered supporting devices according to the degree of patient autonomy.
To complete this approach, the group visited the ‘’valley of robots’’, Robotdalen, in order to learn about new assistance opportunities developed by medical robotics.
Finally, the last part of the trip was dedicated to the study of management methods for dementia, a field where Sweden has acquired a profound expertise. Tour s of the Silviahemmet Foundation, the Clinic’s Memory of the Karolinska Institute and the Swedish Dementia Centre, have permitted the groups to measure the evolution surrounding training, diagnosis and care in this area.
